Castle Hill Club Archives
What the archives are for
The archive section will show memorable moments in the life of the club. The editor is the Club's Archivist - Roy Froggatt, who hopes to be adding more information soon. Please fell free to offer new material to Roy, either in person, or using the form on our Contact page (start your message "For attention of Roy Froggatt", please do not include your pictures at this stage).

Joe Marshall - shooting champion

CHC member Joe won the sitting category of the FITASC European Handisport Compak Sporting Competition. The next part of the competition is the "World " in Portugal in September.
The Navy's Here
Two ex-Navy club members, Richard Kinnear and John Wood, are joined by fellow members Joe Joyce and Mike Corthorn in front of the White Ensign flag that was given to John by the captain of the last Naval ship John sailed on.
John Wood and Joe Joyce have been members of the Club for a combined time of 100 years.

The replica jack
The club has a long association
with Lincoln Cathedral - and the bell ringers' leather jack (which
held 22 pints of ale!) was very much part of it - as detailed in the
history of the club. A replica, dedicated by the Dean of Lincoln
Cathedral is seen here with the first (and present) Guardian.

The Lincoln Cathedral bell ringers
Today's
bell ringers have also supported the club - here is a group of them
on on a recent visit.

Campanile
And here's the campanile they brought
with them to play their bell peals on here.

Oh that's where it is!
Until Wednesday the 4th of
October 2006, few people knew where the Castle Hill Club was. But
now the private gentlemen's club can be seen by all at 4 Castle
Hill - because the club's sign outside the building in Castle
Square has been restored. The restored sign has a new addition from
the original sign - a picture of the Black Boy head/bust - for a
historical reason: when the Black Boy Inn closed in 1922 and the
Castle Hill Club was formed in the same year, the oak bust/head was
placed behind the bar of the newly formed club, and has remained on
the club premises ever since. Each year there is a dinner held at
the Judges Lodgings in honour of the 11 founder members of the
Castle Hill Club. The original sign was first seen around 50 years
ago.
Looking at the restored sign today is like going back thirty years, when I first saw the original. Many local residents and traders may also agree that going back in time can be enjoyable, as we at Castle Hill Club hope that the local residents and traders of Castle Hill and surrounding areas will get pleasure when viewing the Castle Hill Club's restored sign.
